The Liebster Award

Image from

So I'm incredibly happy to say that I recently got nominated for the Liebster award!

I'm not going to lie, until recently I had never really heard of the Liebster award. It was kind of just one of those posts that I saw going around but never really paid much attention to (oops my bad). But after actually taking the time to research it, I began to realise how great the concept is, and am very pleased and honoured to have been nominated. So if, like me, you're a total Liebster noob, I'm going to put a quick explanation of what it is before getting into it.

What is the 'Liebster award'?

The 'Liebster Award,' literally translated from German as 'dearest award,' is an internet based award. This award is awarded to bloggers by bloggers, and is primarily a way for small-time bloggers (with under 200 daily views) to become discovered and gain popularity. Personally, I also believe that it's the perfect way to show support for other bloggers and make new friends.

Until reading the official rules I also had no idea that the Liebster award is linked to a competition where you can win a GoPro Hero! If you want to check that out and be entered, be sure to check out the official rules, like The Global Aussie's Facebook page and link your Liebster post in their comment section.

I would like to thank Charlie from The Break of Dawns for nominating me! Along with running the most beautifully written travel & lifestyle blog, she's also one of the sweetest and kindest bloggers I know. I would definitely recommend checking out her blog, twitter and Instagram (where she posts some amazing quality photos that will 100% give you the travel bug.)

My answers to Charlie's questions
  • What brought you into the blogging world?
I actually started my blog back in 2015 when I went through my 'I could so be a famous blogger/vlogger phase.' Unfortunately, other than 3 absolutely hilarious videos of fetus me on YouTube, and several poorly written blog posts, that's pretty much where my 2015 internet stardom ended. So other than this brief stint in the blogging world, I didn't really get into blogging again until October of this year (which honestly is a relief because, who knows what kind of cringe-worthy content young Meera would have written). I think my decision to start blogging again was mostly down to several events that had just happened to me at the time, one of which resulted in me having to take a second gap year. Although I can look back on it now and see this as an amazing opportunity, at the time it felt like my world was literally falling apart in front of me. Everything I had planned was instantly obliterated in one fell swoop. I guess during this time blogging gave me a sense of purpose and something to look forward to. I thought it would be the perfect way to document my travels and other exciting things over my second *sigh* gap year.

  • What three places are on your travel bucket-list?
This is so hard because I have so many places on my travel bucket-list! It's actually I little sad to look at, as my current funds could probably only get me within two hours of my house. I guess i'll just choose 3 at random; Zhangjiajie national park in China, Maasi Mara national park in Kenya and Machu Picchu in Peru.

  • Who or what inspires and motivates you the most?
I'm going to be really cheesy and say my mum. She's probably the queen of motivation and I both hate it and love it at the same time. She's always trying to get me to read inspiring things or watch some incredible new TedTalk, I actually think I could probably give you a run down of every TedTalk ever just from my mother's Whatsapp messages. In terms of non-family members, I would have to mention Erin Gruwell. She was a teacher for children from the projects who didn't feel valued, and, despite having so much against her, she worked relentlessly to help them. She even worked 3 jobs and got divorced in the process. In the end she managed to give children bound for gangs and crime an infinitely better life, and for that she is one of my inspirations.

  •  What's your favourite thing to binge eat?
Cereal, hands down. I could eat a thousand bowls and still not be tired of it.

  • If you could have any pet of any sort, what would it be?
Probably a giraffe. I mean have you seen how clumsy and cute they are... Also if you don't want a pet with a giant neck, you clearly haven't got your priorities straight.

  • What is your biggest fear in life?
Failure. More specifically, failure to find my purpose in life. I fear that I will just live life, but never really do anything of value in it before I die. Which is ironic because my fear of failure probably makes it harder to find my purpose in life. In that it will stop me from trying knew things, due to my fear of failing them. What a funny paradox.

  • If you were stranded in the middle of nowhere, what three things could you not live without?
See technically this all depends on what you define as middle of nowhere. Does this mean a house with electricity & running water with nothing surrounding it? or, does it mean just me in a dessert with literally nothing? Which actually brings into question, what is the climate of this 'middle of nowhere'? If I was going for the no electricity & water, I guess I would have to go with a car, a fully charged phone and a book. The car and phone to use to attempt to get out of the middle of nowhere, and book just in case all that fails.

  • If you could have any job, what would it be?
Maybe an actress... I know, really unoriginal.

  • Are you a morning or a night person?
Night. As much as I like sunrises, I swear all things fun happen in the evening. That and the fact that I find it hard to get up before 9am...

  • If you could go back to any point in time in history, what era would you go to?
1950's, solely for the fashion.

  • What's your favourite tv series?
Of all time, it's a tie between Friends and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Currently Gilmore Girls, I know it's really old but I've recently started watching it again and I love it!

  • Where or what is something you think that everyone should go or do at least once in their lifetime?
Take a gap year, even if that means just sitting at home and doing nothing for a year. I think people get too caught up in work and forget that *sorry to be cheesy* you actually only get to live once. I think it's sad that most people end up leaving university and going straight into a job, and then stay in that job for the rest of their lives. You could say you get a ton of gap years after retirement but, lets be honest, it's probably not the best time to realise you want to travel the world or go bunjy jumping... And no, it doesn't have to be straight after school or some life affirming travel experience (like in 'Into the Wild,' which is a great movie btw), it just gives you the time to really do something you want to do.

My nominations:

'Discovering 35mm' - An amazing photography blog, in which the blogger shares her experiences with her Grandpa's camera. She documents her progress over time. Honestly, I just love the concept behind this blog and can't wait to see how her photography skills develop!

Paolo from 'PSBarbosa' - One of the best written smaller blogs I've seen. He writes about a variety of different topics, including lifestyle and travel. I love the fact that his blog doesn't just skim the surface of topics, but rather goes into more depth.

Vicky from 'DoorwaysandDresses' - A beautifully written blog including a mix of travel, lifestyle and beauty. It is also the perfect blog to go to if you're looking for amazing places to eat and drink, along with some pretty awesome photography.

Claire from 'BeautyReviewsandBargains' - Along with running an amazing review blog, Claire is also super sweet and, honestly, just a lovely person. This is definitely the blog to check out for all things beauty!

Michelle from 'ChelleMua' - I'm pretty surprised Michelle hasn't been nominated yet, as her blog is amazing! She posts a mix of lifestyle, travel and beauty.

Dani from 'SufferingWanderlust' - Super sweet uni student who blogs about travel and lifestyle bits. She also has the cutest little dog called Charlie!

  3. Well I can say I fully get you on two of those questions. One being the night or morning person. I agree it is really hard to get up before 9am. I hate it so badly. Also my worst fear is failure to. Failure to find a purpose in life. It’s a terrifying thought. We will succeed though. :)
